‘Divers around the world should rejoice in seeing this book published. It is a comprehensive manual of health conditions associated with diving. Incorporating both Western and Chinese medicine perspectives, Janneke Vermeulen details the clinical features of disorders that can be aggravated or initiated by diving, or inhibit one’s ability to enter the water in the first place. She gives numerous practical and effective treatments, acupuncture point combinations and lifestyle recommendations that will help practitioners treat divers better so that they can keep on diving.’
Lillian Pearl Bridges, author of ‘Face Reading in Chinese Medicine, 2nd Edition’
‘This book embodies both art and science – with her exquisite colour diving photographs, medical illustrations, and Western and Chinese medicine treatments, for ear, nose and throat (ENT) imbalances and other syndromes. The protocols are well organized, and can also be utilized for ENT problems caused by “frequent flying”, chronic sinus issues, colds, etc. Her last chapter beautifully addresses the spirit and the receptive, yin aspect of the Water element, which encourages meditation and a sense of being present in the eternal Now.’
Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, L. Ac., M. S., M. M., Dipl. Ac., NCCAOM, author, international teacher of facial acupuncture, and opera singer
‘This book will fill the gap between Western diving medicine and the acupuncture point of view. And it is easy to access for non-acupuncture medicals.’
Menno TW Gaastra, M.D., medical director DAN Europe for the Netherlands
‘Dear Janneke, I just wanted to say hello and thank you for writing your amazing scuba diving book! I‘m an acupuncturist who is just about to complete my PADI Open Water diving course and was doing a bit of research to see if there was anything out there specifically aimed at divers. I have to say I wasn’t really expecting any luck and then up popped your book, needless to say it’s now on order from Singing Dragon and I can’t wait for it to arrive!
Happy diving! Kind regards.’

AMAZON Reviews (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5)
You don’t have to be a diver, or an acupuncturist to find relevant information in this book. I value it for its inclusive and exceptionally detailed information. In my work I have a need for referencing facial anatomy and related acupuncture/acupressure points specifically, and this book provides both with exceptional accuracy. Incidentally, while I am not a diver, I am a swimmer with a history of ear infections and some hearing loss, there’s a chapter on Swimmer’s Ear, and Surfer’s Ear that was fascinating! Now know why it happens, and how to deal with both issues. Well written. Worth every penny.

With this book, the author has done a great job of marrying the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture with the Western Sciences on this medical topic. As a Level 1, dive physician I find the information concise and wonderfully illustrated. Kudo’s to the author.

Diving Medical Acupuncture is not only interesting for acupuncturists. Janneke Vermeulen’s book presents clear and concise information about physiology and diving related diseases. The layout is clear and the content is accurate. As a long time diving physician I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who is interested in diving medicine.

This book not only enables divers to gain profound knowledge about disorders regarding diving plus explaining and “remembering” the TCM basics. I would really recommend “Diving Medical Acupuncture” as a standard book for therapists working with TCM. The combination of very well structured layout, professional graphics, exact explanation of treatment principles and long term practical experience of Janneke Vermeulen (she is a diver and acupuncturist herself) makes this book a welcomed accompanist for studying and deepening your knowledge about Traditional Chinese Medicine and your acupuncture treatment.

I am a dive professional and interested in dive medicine. Although I do not have a medical education, I found the book easy enough to understand. It provided me with some valuable insights. It is well written and contains a lot of nice illustrations.

I am an acupuncturist. I have been waiting for a book like this because I am not experienced in this area and often get clients with these complaints. It had been extremely helpful and easy to get the information I need for treatment purposes.
Very content with this book!

There’s a wealth of knowledge and advice in this book that’s easily incorporated into any acupuncture practice. The easy to understand format, along with its exemplary illustrations, makes this book essential to every acupuncturist’s reference library. Thank you, Janneke Vermeulen!

As a student in a NASA internship for new technology development proposals, I was able to very easily grasp major aspects of acupuncture and its unique application to decompression sickness in this must read for any student of acupuncture and the advancement of bioengineering. A straightforward and directive educational text. This book truly bridges the gap between the ancient wisdom of the modality of Chinese Acupuncture and possible uses in new technology due to how clearly the author chose her words in explanation of concepts. Diving Medical Acupuncture is a brilliant find that helped the ideation and design concepts for new technology. She has inspired me to pursue further studies into acupuncture for the specific possibilities this ancient medicine can provide in the space industry.

Janneke is a wealth of knowledge in both the field of acupuncture and diving. The information on anatomy accompanied by techniques to address common symptoms is easy to digest. This text is very comprehensive. I was particularly impressed with the chapters on medication, side effects and contraindications.
